Every Central Government Employee always wishes to get holidays on Fridays and Mondays, so that they get an extended week-end. In 2025, there will be extended week-ends in as many as 7 occassions, on account of either Mondays or Fridays being a Holiday.
Establishment (JCA) Section of DoPT, vide OM No. 12/2/2023/JCA, dated 9 July, 2024, has notified the list of holidays in 2025, for the Central Government Offices located in Delhi and outside Delhi. Central Government employees are granted a total of 19 holidays in calendar year. The whole office remains closed in 17 days on the 14 Compulsory Holidays and 3 holidays selected out of the the 12 Optional Holidays. The rest 2 are chosen by individaual employees as Restricted Holidays out of the whole list of Restricted Holidays, while the office remains open. A total of 34 Restricted Holidays have been included in the list of holidays for the year 2025.
For the Central Government Offices located in Delhi, the 3 Optional Holidays are chosen by DoPT, while the Central Government Employees Welfare Committee in the State Capitals choose the 3 Optional Holidays for the Central Government Offices located in the respective states.
